One person dies during LDUs recruitment exercise

One person collapsed and died during a fitness test at the ongoing Local Defence Unit personnel recruitment exercise in Lira city on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Solomon Amone, aged 28, a resident of Kirombe North, Lira City West Division, in Lira City

The fifth division army spokesperson, Maj Flavia Turimulungi, confirmed the death, describing it as tragic.

Lira Resident City Commissioner Lawrence Egole told journalists in a media briefing that the body had been taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem to ascertain the cause of his death.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces on Wednesday started the LDU recruitment in Lira city and the exercise being conducted at Lira Army Primary school in Lira City is to last three days.

On the first’s day, the team was recruiting applicants from the districts of Alebtong, Dokolo, Lira district and Lira City.

Over 2,000 youths turned up for the recruitment that will see 224 of them join the army from all the four districts.
