Kimberly Kabiri's star continues to shine brighter than ever

Class: Grade 10

Age: 15 years (U16 Water Polo Player) 

Ugandan swimmer Kimberly Kabiri featured in her first appearance at the South African Currie Cup National Tournament in East London over the weekend.

Kabiri is eyeing selection for the U20 South Africa tournament. 

The former Dolphins Swimming Club athlete was invited to represent the Eagles Water Polo Club in the open team category as the team goalie. 

Kimberly who plays an excellent goalkeeper role took this opportunity to gauge her ability and areas to improve as she targets the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Kimberly started her water polo journey in 2018 as Cente Back player and in 2021 as a goalkeeper at St Andrews, Diocesan School for Girls South Africa, winning several MVP and Goal Keeper of the tournament awards. 

She has represented Eastern Province, Nelson Mandela Bay at the annual Inter Provincial Tournament since 2018. 

Kimberly won the goalie of the tournament award in 2022 at the Saint Stithians Shaun Faucs U15 Water Polo tournament and Clarendon Stayers U15 Water Polo tournament.

Her U15 DSG team coached by Hannah Werth came first after winning gold medals at both tournaments.

She has also seen herself excel in other sports such as basketball and netball. 

According to Kimberly’s father Charles Kabiri a renowned volleyball star the championship is a very good exposure for building the Ugandan star. 

Her mother Olive Ekallam said, "We do believe this is a great and amazing experience for Kimberly as she is playing with Olympic players. She has steadily progressed in her sports and with God, we are sure she will achieve her desired goal.” 

Ekalam who is the Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club, men’s team manager added that her daughter is a talented sportsperson with a height advantage and they are not surprised with where  She has reached. 

Uganda will use the experience of Kimberly Kabiri and others to nature more talent, as Water Polo is just beginning in the country.
