Ugandan broadcast journalist Denis Blair Kalanzi, who has been working with Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) and the Presidential Press Unit (PPU), has died.

Both UBC and the PPU announced his death on Saturday.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Denis Blair Kalanzi, a colleague at UBC and PPU," tweeted the national broadcaster.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones during this trying time."

UBC went on to describe the late journalist as a "respected professional who made valuable contributions to UBC and PPU".

In a statement, senior press secretary to the President Sandor Walusimbi described the late Kalanzi as having been "dedicated, professional, ethical and patriotic", and a man who "loved his job".

Kalanzi was a television producer with the PPU.

"He is most celebrated for his weekly programme “Agafa Embuga”, which he presented on UBC TV, profiling the activities of His Excellency the President, and for which he had a dedicated following," said Walusimbi.

"His contribution and passion will always be remembered."

Burial arrangements are under way and "the PPU will keep the public informed on the plans to give our colleague a dignified sendoff".

Kalanzi's death has come exactly a week after that of another journalist — Edward Muhumuza.

Muhumuza, 34, was a reporter for NTV Uganda, having previously worked with Vision Group's Urban TV.

He was killed in a solo car crash on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway last Saturday.
