MENGO - This year’s Kabaka Birthday Run gets a boost from I&M Bank worth sh200m which signed a memorandum of understanding with the kingdom as the banking partner.

As thousands are expected to brace the 11th edition of the run this Sunday, I&M Bank CEO Robin Bairstow has assured Buganda Kingdom of the bank’s commitment to events and activities that impact the communities where the bank operates.

“I&M Bank is honoured to stand alongside the Buganda Kingdom on this noble cause. The Birthday Run presents us a grand opportunity to make a tangible difference by giving back and leading the charge for change and transformation in the community, especially in the collective efforts to end the AIDS epidemic," stated Bairstow.

He stated this in Bulange, Mengo, at the signing of the memorandum of understanding with the Buganda Kingdom legitimising their partnership in the run as the official bank partner at Bulange, Mengo.

The deputy Katikkiro of Buganda, Robert Wagwa Nsibirwa, and Buganda minister for youth sports and arts Robert Sserwanga, alongside Majestic Brands boss Remmy Kisakye, were present on behalf of the kingdom.

The Kabaka Birthday Run is a key fixture on the kingdom’s annual activity calendar, that is used as a vessel to raise funds and awareness towards the fight against non-communicable diseases, especially HIV/AIDS since its inception in 2013.

The theme for this year’s run is ‘Men Are Stars in the Fight against HIV/AIDS to Save the Girl Child’.

“When you work with us, you are not only supporting the Kabaka or the Baganda, but the entire region, and by extension, the entire country; so, I want to thank you for that foresight,” Nsibirwa added.

The run is slated to kick off at 7:00 am graced by the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

I&M Bank joins the long list of partners who have come on board this year’s run with Vision Group leading the charge alongside Airtel Uganda and others.
