Kisubi seminary sends off Fr ssonko

Rev Fr Dr Edward Ssonko Kitandwe, a priest of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala who died from Covid-19, last week, has been laid to rest.

The scientific burial function took place at the seminary, in Wakiso district on Tuesday, January 26.

It was preceded by a requiem mass presided over by the seminary’s rector, the Rev Fr Winceslaus Kkonde.

The Vicar General of Kampala, Msgr Charles Kasibante, also graced the function.

Prior to his death, Fr Ssonko, a Latin language specialist and musician, was a teacher at Kisubi Minor Seminary.

He was also the chaplain of the Brothers of Christian Instruction Scholasticate.

Ssonko also headed the liturgy and sacred music department of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, in 2001-2017.

The Rector of Kisubi Seminary, Fr Francis Ssengendo, called Fr Ssonko a very friendly and jolly priest, who made community life at the seminary very interesting.

He described Ssonko as a skilled story-teller and musician, who played instruments such as the bass-guitar and then piano with great expertise.

Msgr Charles Kasibante also spoke well of Fr Ssonko’s sacerdotal devotion and teaching career at Kisubi Seminary.
