NEBBI - National Youth Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Minerals Development, Phiona Nyamutoro, is on cloud nine after securing a decisive victory in the Nebbi District Woman MP NRM primaries.
The party primaries are a precursor to the 2026 general elections, expected to attract over six political parties and independent candidates.
Nyamutoro captured 78.1% (47,710) of the votes, defeating incumbent Woman MP Agnes Achibu, who garnered 47,117 votes in the countrywide elections on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
Other candidates vying for the same slot were Irene Freda Odongtho (3,161 votes) and Irene Bithola (who recently defected from FDC to NRM).
The results were declared by the election registrar and returning officer shortly after midnight, following a tense wait during which Nyamutoro remained in her vehicle outside the tallying centre.
Her husband, a musician and presidential advisor, Eddy Kenzo, accompanied her, later celebrating her projected win on social media.
