Hoima district NRM returning officer Joseph Kutegeka says he declared the party primaries parliamentary results under duress—coerced into acting against his will due to threats, violence, or other forms of pressure.
Kutegeka had declared Beatrice Wembabazi as the party flag-bearer for the District Woman MP seat without announcing vote figures but after 30 minutes he declared incumbent Harriet Businge.
However, Kutegeka in a phone interview said that he declared Wembabazi under duress and asked her to accept defeat.
Meanwhile, Wembabazi maintained that she is the rightful flag-bearer for the party in the next general elections.
Going independent
Kigorobya MP David Karubanga has announced plans to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general election after losing out on the NRM party flag.
Karubanga made the remarks while briefing the media this (July 18, 2025) morning at his residence in Kisukuma.
Yesterday, Karubanga who got 6,619 votes lost to Jerald Kasigwa who polled 9,938 votes.
