The NRM registrar for Serere district, William Olir, has been charged with two counts of forgery and falsification of declaration forms and remanded to Serere Government Prison until August 5 this year.
Olir, who appeared before Serere Magistrate Grade One Edmond Okiror Okwi on Thursday, July 24, dressed in a yellow long-sleeved NRM shirt, was arrested by police yesterday, Wednesday.
According to the prosecution, led by State Attorney Paul Okello, Olir allegedly forged internal NRM party election results on July 17, 2025, at the NRM district tally centre in Serere district. He is also accused of falsifying NRM forms for the Pingire Constituency.
Olir is also charged with falsely declaring Peter Paul Emaju as the duly elected NRM flag bearer for Kasilo County, despite allegedly not being the rightful winner.
Olir denied the charges during the court appearance on Thursday.
The State Attorney informed the court that investigations were complete and that the case is ready for hearing. The hearing will begin on August 5.
Olir’s arrest is linked to last week's NRM Parliamentary primary elections, which several candidates have since contested.
The complaints were raised by Peter Ojiit, a candidate in the Pingire County race, and Esther Lucy Achom, who contested for the Woman MP seat.
Olir reportedly failed to announce the results for Pingire County and instead forwarded them to the NRM electoral commission chairperson, Dr Tanga Odoi, who on Wednesday declared Philip Oucor the winner.
Only declared results for the Woman MP race, in which incumbent Hellen Adoa was announced as the winner, and for Serere County, where Emmanuel Omoding was declared victorious.
Meanwhile, the aggrieved candidates, Ojiit and Achom, have filed petitions with the NRM party tribunal.
