AMURU - Christopher Odongkara has been declared the NRM flag bearer for Amuru District LC5 chairperson’s position for the 2026 general election. Odongokara trounced six other contenders.
Odongokara garnered 7,116 votes, representing 31.91% of total votes cast.
Odongokara said his victory is for the NRM party and hoped that it would carry meaning at the end of the 2026 general election.
Ruling National Resistance Movement party yesterday, July 24, 2025, held its local government council primaries (for division mayors, Lord mayor, municipality mayors, LC3 chairperson, town council/municipal division mayor, directly elected councillors at the district, municipal and sub-county level and woman councillor at district, municipal and subcounty level) across the whole country in over 70,000 villages.
The primaries followed the ones of Member of Parliament held a week earlier.
NRM electoral commission returning officer for Amuru district Kidega Walter, declared the results below:
1. Opara sub-county LC5 councillor George Ocan (4,370 votes) 19.60%.
2. Denis Opio Atwom (3,817 votes) 17.12%
3. Tonny Kilama (2,842 votes) 12.75%.
4. Anthony Louis Atube Omac (2,122 votes)
5. Dominic Otto (1,136 votes) 5.09%.
6. Richard Odokonyero with 895 votes (4.01%)
7. Atube Omach Anthony Louis 2,122 votes (9.52%)
There were a total of 22,298 votes cast across the various polling stations in the district.
