Newly formed People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party has officially opened new offices in Ntungamo district in preparation for the 2026 general election.

The offices were opened on August 12, 2025, by the party’s speaker for the national assembly, Salaam Musumba.

She was accompanied by members of the party's council of eminent persons: Wycliff Bakandonda and former Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Wafula Oguttu.

PFF was officially inaugurated as a new political party on July 8, 2025, with its jailed kingpin and four-time presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, delivering a recorded keynote address.

Its electoral commission recently announced an extension of the deadline for the nomination of candidates for the forthcoming general election.

The nomination of candidates for local government positions was rescheduled for August 22, 2025, and for presidential and parliamentary seats for August 29, 2025, to allow for what the party said was a more comprehensive and inclusive selection process.

“This decision comes in the wake of a significant surge in the number of aspirants expressing interest in various political positions, from local councils to parliamentary seats,” the party’s electoral commission chairman, Michael Kabaziguruka, said.

He emphasised that the extension was intended to ensure that all eligible and interested individuals have a fair opportunity to complete the nomination process and cites complaints about the access of the expression of interest forms as well as the party cards.

Kabaziguruka also said the decision aligns with the practice of providing a reasonable timeframe for all potential candidates to submit their nomination papers, thereby promoting a more robust and democratic internal electoral process.

Last week, the national Electoral Commission announced new dates for the nomination of local government and parliamentary candidates for next year's general election.

Candidates for the district/city will be nominated between September 8 to September 10, 2025, while for Parliament, on October 15 and October 16, 2025 at the office of the respective district/city returning officer.

However, the nomination dates for presidential candidates were not adjusted: September 23-24 this year.
