As nominations for local government councils by the Electoral Commission (EC) continue across the country, nominated candidates in Mitooma District have been cautioned against engaging in early campaigns before the stipulated time, or risk disqualification.

The caution by Mitooma district elections officer Coleb Nahamya was issued on September 16, 2025, while speaking to New Vision about the progress of the exercise that started on September 3 and will run until September 24.

Nahamya said 82 candidates for district-level positions from different political parties have so far been duly nominated.

He added that the process has now moved to the subcounty level, where 72 candidates have been nominated.

“We have so far nominated 82 candidates for district-level leadership positions and 72 candidates at the subcounty level. The exercise will continue until September 24,” Nahamya said.

He noted that some candidates are still struggling with paperwork.

“We have faced challenges in arranging documents by some candidates, which is time-consuming since many are not fully aware of the requirements. Time management is also still a problem, which explains the relatively low number of nominations,” he explained.

Despite the challenges, Nahamya expressed optimism.

“We hope that in the remaining time, more candidates will come forward to complete their nomination successfully,” he said.

Nahamya also issued a stern warning to candidates against premature campaigning.

“I want to remind all nominated candidates that early campaigning is against Electoral Commission guidelines. Whoever is found violating this directive risks disqualification,” he cautioned.
