KAMPALA - Several national leaders on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, congratulated President Yoweri Museveni upon his successful nomination as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag-bearer in the 2026 General Election.

President Museveni became the first candidate to be nominated for the presidential race ahead of the 2026 General Election by the Electoral Commission at Lweza, along Entebbe Road.

Led by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, the leaders noted that President Museveni’s visionary leadership has delivered peace, stability, and steady socio-economic growth and that the endorsement reflects the trust Ugandans placed in him.

“I warmly congratulate you, Mzee, on your nomination to serve the people of Uganda once again. I give glory to God for granting you the grace, health, and wisdom to lead our nation. As we embark on this new chapter, let us, as Ugandans, come together to protect the achievements we have made, embrace the economic growth driven by the PDM, and actively engage with the four sectors of wealth creation. May the Lord bless this journey, and may Uganda continue to prosper under your leadership, Mzee,” the First Lady stated.

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who is also the second NRM vice-chairperson, said: “Congratulations, Mzee Wa Kazi Gen. Museveni, on your successful nomination! We thank God for blessing us with an extraordinary leader and for granting you wisdom, good health, and the courage to lead our nation. Cheers to many more years of protecting the achievements of the revolution!”

Health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero said, “Congratulations President Museveni, on your nomination as the NRM flag bearer for NRM.  Your leadership and vision continue to inspire Uganda. 🇺🇬, Your people in Lira City are very proud of this memorable day and event.”

Fisheries state minister Hellen Adoa said, “Congratulations to His Excellency Museveni upon your successful nomination as Presidential candidate 2026-31 under the NRM ticket. Together, we can protect and consolidate our gains as a country.”

Shortly after his nomination on Tuesday. President Museveni thanked his party for trusting him again.

In a message to his supporters, Museveni said: “I want to thank the NRM members for entrusting and electing me as the NRM Presidential flag-bearer for the 2026-2031 term.”

The President, who was accompanied by the First Lady together with the members of the NRM’s central executive committee (CEC), arrived in a show of solidarity from senior party leaders and members as he embarked on his campaign journey.
