BUYENDE - The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flagbearer, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has promised free education and free meals to all school-going children in Uganda if he is elected president in 2026.

He made the pledge on his second day on the campaign trail on Tuesday (September 30) while addressing a rally at Buyende district headquarters in the eastern district of Buyende.

Also known by his music stage name Bobi Wine, the NUP frontrunner said extending free meals and free education is part of his party's manifesto, which they launched on Monday in Jinja.

The opposition party described theirs as a "pro-people manifesto" that is "hinged on 11 priorities that we believe if tackled shall catapult us to the level that we deserve to be as a nation".

Kyagulanyi, who is giving the presidency a second shot after coming up second-best in the 2021 election, also said his government plans to improve the working conditions of all public servants across the spectrum, especially the teachers and health workers.

After addressing the rally in Buyende, Kyagulanyi proceeded to Kamuli district for his second and final rally of the day.

On Wednesday (October 1), he is scheduled to begin the new month with campaign engagements in Kaliro and Luuka districts.

Kyagulanyi, a former MP of Kyadondo East, wants to wrestle the power from President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who is seeking re-election.
