A section of ministers and National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Members of Parliament (MPs) have drummed up support for President Yoweri Museveni in Nakaseke district ahead of the 2026 General Election.
They held a campaign rally on Sunday (October 5) dubbed ‘Buganda for Museveni’ that was graced by Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka.
The rally was hosted by Nakaseke district Woman MP Sarah Najjuma and was attended by several people from her district and neighbouring districts that make up the greater Luwero.
They included lands minister Judith Nabakooba, the state minister for health and Sembabule Woman MP, Hanifa Kawooya and other MPs Hope Grania Nakazibwe (Mubende Woman), Nsegumire Kibedi (Mityana North) and Robina Rwakoojo (Gomba West).
Others who attended were James Kinobe, a member of the NRM electoral commission, and former state minister for investment, Hajji Muhammad Muyanja Mbabaali.
The campaign is to ensure NRM wins at least 80% in Buganda region, something Kiwanuka said is real and achievable.
Nabakooba told the people of Nakaseke district that she was aware of the different land issues in the district and her office was actively working to solve them.
“I have been to Nakaseke more than five times and I am in the know of the land issues affecting this area. We were in Mityomire, Kanyogoga and the different places we have traversed with honourable Sarah Najjuma, the Woman MP,” she said.
Nabakooba also said that her ministry had already sent out a team in Mityomire to do boundary opening exercises to know the rightful landlords the Government can work with to ease the pressure on the bibanja holders.
She noted that the Government under the Land Fund has compensated a number of persons in the Luwero greater region. In total, Nakaseke landlords under the Land Fund have land measuring 1,619.9 hectares, valued at sh16.845b, she said.
“So far, payments made amount to sh11.033b and sh5.812b remains unpaid. Across the three districts combined, the total land area stands at 4,752.26 hectares, valued at sh25.167b. Payments already received amount to sh18.083b, while the outstanding balance is sh7.084b,” she said.
Nabakooba said this represents a payment compliance rate of approximately 71.9%, with 28.1% of the total value still pending.
“This position demonstrates significant progress, with the majority of land owners being fully paid,” the minister stated.
She also emphasised the payment of busuulu (nominal ground rent), and reechoed the message of the established centralised government account where tenants can deposit busuulu aimed at curbing landlords who are either absent, untraceable, or outright refuse to accept rent payments.
The minister stressed that lawful and bona fide occupants, commonly referred to as bibanja holders, are protected under Uganda’s Constitution and Land Act, and cannot be legally evicted as long as they pay their annual ground rent.
‘Buganda for Museveni’ rallies have rejuvenated the much-needed NRM spirit to drum up support for President Museveni and the NRM within Buganda and beyond.
The need to consolidate peace, security and stability is the other major highlight of these rallies, with different leaders of government ministries and departments showing reasons why locals should keep voting for the incumbent President in the January 2026 polls.
In a spirited show of unity, NRM leaders in Buganda also pledged to continue spreading the party’s message and rally support for President Museveni ahead of the 2026 elections.
