UGANDA ELECTIONS 2026
Each passing day brings presidential candidates closer to the January 15, 2026, general election, a race against time as they seek votes to propel them to the highest office in the land.

It’s now over a month since the campaigns kicked off, with candidates traversing different parts of the country to win hearts and votes. As they move, our reporters are right there on the trail, capturing every moment.
While some candidates attract massive crowds, others draw moderate turnouts, and others, only a handful. The campaign journey has been a true roller-coaster experience, filled with both adventure and challenges, especially poor feeder roads that slow down movement. But like men on a mission, there’s no giving up; the goal must be achieved.

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, the NRM flag bearer, held rallies in Ngora and Kumi districts in the Teso sub-region, where he preached the NRM message of peace and wealth creation.
As has been the case at his rallies, crowds turned up in large numbers to listen to him. His events, often graced by senior party officials, are marked by vibrant entertainment and excitement — never a dull moment.

National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias
Bobi Wine, traversed Ssembabule and Lyantonde districts in the Central Region, where he was welcomed by enthusiastic supporters. His team, as usual, led processions through towns before addressing crowds at designated venues.

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi campaigned in Kibuku and Budaka districts in Eastern Uganda, while Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) flag bearer Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu took his message to the Northern Region, specifically Oyam and Omoro districts.

Here’s how the campaign trail unfolded — in pictures.

Since late last week, President Museveni has been on the campaign trail in the Teso sub-region, and the entire area has been painted yellow. The streets have been abuzz with excitement, the atmosphere electric, as supporters turned up in huge numbers to listen to their party leader and incumbent President deliver his message.

While in Ngora, President Yoweri Museveni said he was impressed by the progress the district had made in expanding infrastructure and social services under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.

He applauded the leadership and people of Ngora for their commitment to improving service delivery and implementing government development programmes effectively.

NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, together with his wife Barbie, received a warm and colourful welcome from supporters in Ssembabule. Excited crowds lined the roads, cheering and waving as the couple greeted them through the sunroof of their car.

Moments later, Kyagulanyi and Barbie stepped out and walked alongside their supporters amid loud ululations and chants, all the way to the rally venue where he addressed the crowd and appealed for their votes.

After the rally, the team set off for Lyantonde, their final stop of the day, where they were once again greeted by another enthusiastic crowd.

ANT presidential candidate Gen. (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu passionately addressed supporters in Kona-Kamdini Town Council, Oyam District, emphasising the need for integrity and servant leadership in politics.

He cautioned that many opportunists have joined politics not to serve the people but to pursue personal gain, a practice he said has greatly undermined the country’s development.

For FDC presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the day’s campaign was bittersweet. It began smoothly with rallies in Budaka, where he pledged to revive farmers’ cooperative societies if elected president.

However, events took an ugly turn at Kachomo Trading Centre when hooligans infiltrated his supporters, sparking violent clashes.

Mafabi narrowly escaped harm, but his personal secretary, Hajji Abus Mugoya, was not as fortunate; he was struck on the head with a sharp object and sustained injuries. Mafabi condemned the violence and called on the Police to investigate and restore order.
