Dancesport goes to schools

Uganda Dancesport Federation is taking the sport to schools as part of their plan to spread it across the country.

Gombe Junior School pioneered the initiative by launching the sport officially in their school located in Kasenge Wakiso district on Friday.

Barnabas Ssebuyungo, the General Secretary of the federation commended Gombe Junior School for pioneering dance sport in institutions of learning.

"You are the pioneer school that has been registered in promoting the sport in Uganda," stated Ssebuyungo

He also assured the school principal of support in form of manpower as the sport targets the 2024 Olympics.

Breakdance as an Olympic sport is one of the dance disciplines that were showcased in the event.

Contemporary dance and Afro-house or beat were the other disciplines that were showcased by the dancers.

Reneus Bbosa, a breakdancer told the students that this sport can take them places.

"I have been able to change my life, travelled the world, and earned some money through participating in dancesport competitions, “noted Bbosa.

Bbosa who has been to Nigeria, Kenya, and China and also participated in locally organised dancesport competitions believes the game will grow with the incorporation of the youth.
