Uganda Cycling Association honours late president Robert Kiwendo

Kampala City Cycling Club held a competition in memory of Robert Kiwendo, the former Uganda Cycling Association president who died last July of Covid-19 related complications.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony at MultiChoice Uganda headquarters in Kampala, Dr, Patrick Semambo of the Uganda Cycling Association urged cycling fans to continue to celebrate Kiwendo's life and his contribution to the sport.

“Let us commemorate the work done by the late Kiwendo for Uganda cycling association that is still being felt even after he left the association and focuses on his club,” Ssemambo told MultiChoice staff and cyclists who had gathered for the flag-off ceremony. 

Joan Semanda, the PR and Communications Manager of MultiChoice Uganda flagged off the race at the Pay TVs offices on Friday.

Clubs that took part in the tournament include Super Cycling Club, Busoga Cycling Club, One More Cycling Club, Tropical Heat Cycling Club, Masaka City Cycling Club, Mbarara City Cycling Club, Kampala Cycling Club, and  Kampala City Cycling Club.

“Indeed an honour to carry on with the ties and relations with the Uganda Cycling Association. It is befitting to race in honour of the late Kiwendo who had a passion for the sport at heart," Semanda said.

“It would have brought the late Kiwendo so much joy to have a cycling race flagged off from the MultiChoice headquarters, thus we didn’t think twice to have the race start from here.”

Robert Kiwendo was president of the Uganda Cycling Association from 2008 to 2009.
