Despite vigorous preparations by clubs for this year’s Nile Special National Rugby 7s tournament, Uganda Rugby Union has postponed it to August.

According to a communication from the Union, the Mileke 7s that was meant to start June 9 was postponed to August 6 due to a compact activity calendar for the national teams.

"This is a result of the busy National 7s team schedule at the global level that will leave no time for the senior players to feature for their clubs in this year’s edition," URU said.

Uganda Rugby Union Chief technical officer and acting CEO Ramsey Olinga confirmed the development saying they wanted to focus on one activity at a time.

“It becomes very difficult to start the sevens then break off for Elgon Cup between July 23 and July 30, and then return to sevens again. So, we decided to put it off,” Olinga noted.

The national team is currently in France for the Rugby Africa Cup, while the 7s side is preparing for the Commonwealth Games and then head for the Challenger Series in Chile where they will be targeting qualification to the HSBC World Rugby Series.
