Thirty-two crews are set to battle for honours in the SMC Bwera rally from August 5 to 7 in Masaka and Sembabule.

However, Hassan Alwi, who would have been the thirty-third driver pulled out due to a busy business schedule.

“I was ready, but I will not be racing in Masaka because I am very busy,” Alwi told Vision Sport.

This leaves the battle for top honours between Ponsiano Lwakataka who leads the table with 262 points,2020/2021 champion Duncan “Kinkankane” Mubiru, three-time national champions Ronald Sebuguzi and Jas Mangat.

However, the quartet will not be in their comfort zone as youngsters Mark Lubega, Michael Mukula jr., and Umar Dauda will be out to prove their strength.

Dauda, Jonas Kansime, and Lubega finished the just concluded UMC Fort Portal Tourism Rally in first, second and third positions respectively.

Meanwhile, Joshua Muwanguzi and his female co-driver Ritah Nakigozi are ready to face the hazards in the stages as they will open the route for the big boys.

Rookie Muwanguzi joined rally this year and raced in the  MPU autocross. He also opened the route in Fort Portal before racing in the Sprint Championship in Garuga.

The rally starts with scrutineering on Friday and Saturday morning, the crews will hit the competitive stages that include Maria Flo (13.17km), SMK Tyres (17.6km), and end the day with Rose form stage (5km) which is the spectator’s stage summing it to 35.7km of competitive distance.
