Rally driver Ponsiano Lwakataka may be crowned 2022 National Rally champion without racing in the final event.

Lwakataka who leads the championship with 332 points, 60.5 points ahead of second-placed Jonas Kansiime (271.5 points) will be crowned national champion if Kansiime, Byron Rugomoka, and Umar Dauda fail to finish the MOSAC Kigezi Boona Rally on December 10-11, in Rukungiri.

The two-time national champion may also be crowned champion if the other three contenders Kansime, Rugomoka, and Dauda fail to finish the rally in the top three positions.

Lwakataka was sentenced to jail by Mukono chief magistrate for 14 months after finding him guilty of trespass and malicious property damage.

Kansiime needs to finish in the top four positions, Rugomoka in the three positions, and Dauda in the top two positions in the Kigezi Boona Rally in Rukungiri.

The three-day event, the seventh and final round of the NRC, will cover six competitive stages totaling 124 km of competitive distance. 

The stages include Pole Pole (25km) Nyabikuku (16km), Platinum Kikoni (27km), and Rwobusisi (23Kms).

The event to determine the 2012 national rally champion has Ponsiano Lwakataka on top of the log with 332 points, 60.5points ahead of Jonas Kansiime (271.5) in the second position while Byron Rugomoka(254pts) is third. 

According to the Organising Club president Frank Bayendera, proceeds will go to support the outpatient department of the Rukungiri health centre, and I appeal to all the business community to support this noble cause,” Bayendera said.
