After winning the Kalangala Rally Drivers Day Out held over the weekend in Kalangala District, Peter Kalule has now turned his focus to the Gomba MOSAC Rally later this October.

The sixth round of the National Rally Championship will be held October 20-22 in Bukandula, Gomba District.

That same week, drivers Yasin Nasser, Jas Mangat and Innocent Bwamiki, will be in Zambia fighting for the Africa Rally Championship.

Kalule popularly called ‘Ken Block of Uganda’ because of his aggressive, daring style said he is targeting a podium finish in Gomba.

“It is good winning this event. It was a tight stage but coming first in an event that has experienced and good drivers like Jonas Kansiime, Oscar Ntambi, Andy Musoke and Fred Wampamba is good enough for me to celebrate,” Kalule said.

To win the Kalangala Rally, Kalule beat stiff competition from Kasiime and Muhammad Bwete who finished second and third respectively.

Twelve drivers finished the event that had 16 crews and the prize-giving ceremony was presided over by Kalangala MP Helen Nakimuli.

She urged the organisers to continue promoting sports and take more events to the island to support the people there.

“It has been a long time since we had a rally here and I thank you for bringing motor rallying back to Kalangala. I request that you continue doing so every year,” she said.

“Sports is good for the development of communities and we as the leadership in this district shall support you every time you come in the district,” the former volleyball star added.

The drivers also donated clothes and food to the Kalangala Home of Disabilities which has sixteen children in much need of support.
