With the 2024 National Basketball League (NBL) looming on the horizon, eight teams are gearing up for the return of the Friday Night Lights tourney that tips off this Friday at the Hockey Ground in Lugogo.

The Friday Night Lights was last played in 2019 due to disruptions from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The games will be played on Friday evenings as players use the tourney to get in shape for the new NBL season that starts in January 2024.

The teams are Team Melo captained by KIU Titans star Said ‘Carmelo’ Amisi, Team Afande captained by UPDF’s Henry Okoth, Team Comfort led by JKL Lady Dolphins star Leticia Awor, Team Drileba captained by City Oilers’ Tony Drileba, Team Ekon spearheaded by Brenda Ekon, Team Iman captained by Gazelles star Ritah Imanishimwe, Team Soro captained by Nam Blazers’ Geoffrey Soro, and Team Wazee largely comprised of middle-aged ex-basketball players.

This is the tourney’s 9th edition and according to FNL chief, Tom Ocamringa, called upon basketball lovers to support this year’s edition.

“It’s good to be back. This year’s edition is far different from the previous ones,” Ocamringa said.

The new FNL season was launched at the NRG Media offices in Nakasero.
