Whereas many people are still in celebration and in the festive season mood, it isn’t so for the golfing fraternity who have lost two prominent people in the past few days.

First was Dr. James Ssekajugo who was found dead at his home in Bugolobi. The former Uganda Badminton Association chairman at one time served as the Uganda Cranes team doctor for a long time has of late been a prominent golfer, and won the UCAA seniors Open in 2022.

According to the captain of the Uganda Golf Club Emmanuel Wamala where the late has been a member, Ssekajugo could have slipped and died in his house over ten days ago, and that only a stench from his house prompted neighbours to start asking about his whereabouts until police broke in to find him dead.

“He has been living alone in his house, but I’m told he was due to travel to Dubai for Christmas and he had taken his car to Toyota because his neighbours could not see it in its usual parking lot, so they thought he had left,”

“It is a great loss. He was always jolly on the course and a storyteller about his life experiences including when he was a doctor for the different national teams including the boxing team in the 70's,” Wamala said.

“He also served on one of our subcommittees at the club and was willing to serve. He blended in well with the golfers. He has been a global figure in sports,” Wamala stated.

There will be a requiem mass at Christ the King Church for the late at 2 pm before a vigil at Nsambya and before burial at Kalisizo at 2 pm on Tuesday.

Ssekajugo also led the FUFA normalization committee in 2005 before the committee drafted and dispatched Uganda’s statutes to FIFA for assessment and amendment. +

Then on Sunday morning golfers especially those of Lira and Entebbe Golf Clubs woke up to the sudden death of Dr. James Eyul who had been the captain of the Lira Golf Club and a member of the Entebbe Golf Club.

“With deep sorrow, we announce the untimely death of our member Dr. James Eyul that occurred earlier today,” a message to the members of the club signed by the honorary secretary Paul Ojambo red in part.

According to sources Eyul died in an accident on Sunday after he had attended an annual general meeting in Lira on Saturday where he had handed over to another committee. He has also been building a nine-hole golf course in Nakasongola and was due to visit the project on Sunday with professional golfer Deo Akope.

“He was very instrumental in the golf fraternity he has done a lot for the sport and had completed six of the nine holes at the Nakasongola course,”
