The 2024 edition of the Uganda Primary Schools’ Sports Games Association (UPSSA) will be held in the Acholi and Teso sub-regions.

This follows the rotational format introduced by the association.

Last year, the National Primary Schools' Kids Athletics and Para-games Championships were held at Luwero Boys’ Primary School (Luwero) district in central Uganda, while Mbarara Junior School in Mbarara City in Western Uganda hosted the Ball Games.

This time, Northern and Eastern have been granted the 2024 hosting rights for the games that roll off on May 5 to 16, at Kitgum Public Primary School, while Pioneer Primary School in Soroti will host Ball Games in August.

“Following the rotational format of hosting the national games, the Ministry of Education and Sports has decided to have Kitgum in the North and Soroti district in the East to host the national championships," said Rev. Canon Ducan Mugumya.

“On choosing Kitgum and Soroti, the ministry had looked at several aspects ranging from accommodation, security, health facilities, electricity and water, among others which the two districts had.”

According to Mugumya, the championship is to enable children U-11, 12, and U-14 to display talents in football, volleyball, handball, and netball.

“We are very happy that our request has been positively responded to by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) in collaboration with the Uganda Primary Schools Games Association (UPSSA).  We are ready to host and we hope to make it a successful event ever, " said Nicholas Opio, Soroti District Sports Officer.

According to Opio, schools such as Pioneer, Soroti SS, Erimu College School, Swaria, Fr Helders, Soroti Primary School, Nakatunya, Kichinjaji, Akisim, Pamba, Madera girls, Madera boys, and rock view primary schools will be used as accommodation facilities for the athletes.
