Lingering questions about when, how long, and how much the redevelopment of the Lugogo sports complex will take and cost could be answered on Wednesday.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to meet with the key stakeholders of the Lugogo redevelopment project and the Hoima Stadium that is planned to host some of the 2027 AFCON matches under the Pamoja bid.

A source informed Vision Sports that the president is keen on ensuring the redevelopment of the Lugogo sports complex as well as the construction of Hoima stadium in preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations that Uganda is co-hosting with Kenya and Tanzania.

The National Council of Sports led by the principal accountant (general secretary) Bernard Ogwel and chairman Ambrose Tashobya will accompany the state minister Peter Ogwang and officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports to the meeting.

The contractor in charge of the project Summa who might be designated with the construction of the two projects will also be part of the parties attending the meeting.

The meeting with the president will give timelines, budgets, and other amenities that will make the projects fall into place.

The source also hinted at the fact that the resolutions from the meeting will give a go-ahead to the start of work in Hoima in a month as well as Lugogo in two months from the meeting time.

“We hope to have work start in the shortest time after getting a commitment from the president, expediting the process of having state-of-the-art sports facilities in the shortest time possible,” the source confidently noted.

This meeting comes just 8 days after both Federations of Uganda Football Federation (FUFA), NCS, and Summa met at the sports headquarters in Lugogo.

The meeting at Lugogo was held after all sides toured the site in Hoima, where the stadium is to be built.
