The 2024 Mbarara City Rally event will go on as scheduled despite the issues that have rocked helm of the local motorsport governing body FMU.

There arose fears that the event, the first on FMU calendar 2024 events, would not happen, after police stopped the federation AGM on Saturday, to implement a court injunction issued by the high court on Geoffrey Nsamba’s application.

However, the event organisers Motorsport Promotions Uganda (MPU) president Dr Daniel Bogere said all is on and the event will go on as earlier scheduled, despite the issues.

“The event is very on despite the consequences of nature and we have no particular issue that the event may not happen because not even a single threat is on the ground. The calendar had been passed and even then, the AGM has been extended to Friday and this is within the rules, so we are on,” Bogere said.

Adding, “Even as I talk, drivers are already going through the checks in the routes meaning all is set for the rally and we are managing business as usual,”

It is by order that every rally event must be confirmed with securing a speed lift from the ministry of works and transport, which Bogere says they already have.

“As the organizing club, we have already secured every gadget necessary for the event to take place including the speed lift. And us as a club, we are organisers of the event on behalf of the federation so we are not party to whatever is happening. The rally has already been sanctioned and we are on. What I know the federation is still standing and the observers are not the ultimate reason any event should not go on. We are only hoping that between now and Friday, all between the federation and other parties is calmed down,” Bogere said.

Bogere (MPU) is organizing the event in conjunction with Jungu Kainobwisho, Richard Mugisha, Didas Matsiko and clubs president Stella Phillipa of Mbarara City Rally Club (MCRC).

Top drivers Jas Mangat and Ponsiano Lwakataka are among the reported drivers to have already wrecked through the routes by Tuesday morning while the rest will be making the check through on Wednesday till Friday.

The event will have the cars scrutineering exercise on Friday February 9 at BAM petrol station in Mbarara, before competition proper on day one Saturday which will have the first two sections in Katebe-Biharrwe and Biharwe- Kakoba before the super special stage at Booma Golf course.

The second and last day Sunday will have three sections of Katebe 2-Biharwe, Biharwe-Sanga, Akageeti-Ahakyaapa, Ahakyapa-Sanga, Sanga-Biharwe and the newly introduced Power stage section that will run from Kakoba to Mbarara City for a total competition distance of 179.16km.

The two day event is organized by MPU motor club in conjunction with Mbarara City Rally Club (MCRC) and sponsored by Khaye hotel, BAM petrol stations, EX-Effect, among others.
