Nakivubo Stadium proprietor and developer Hamis Kiggundu has called Ugandans to take up personal responsibility to develop not only as individuals but also as a country.

Kiggundu was speaking to the press after the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports toured the facility yesterday to see the progress of the development.

“It was such an honour to have her here today. I’m personally humbled by the fact that she came here in 2018 while we were at the foundation level and since she left the blessings that she left here have pushed us this far,” Kiggundu noted.

“I decided to develop this stadium as a personal obligation to add a development block to my country. We must develop our country. If I have managed to do it, it means other businessmen can also follow suit and put up such structures to ensure our country develops.

“Ugandans should not think they will be appreciated for putting up such facilities but should take it as an obligation to develop the country.

“I wish my fellow youth can assimilate and realise that the government has put in place the right conditions for us to be able to achieve such. It is up to us to take personal responsibility to ensure we develop ourselves and Uganda as a nation at large,”

He said they were all very excited, humbled, and honoured that the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports came to inspect and see how far they have gone with the construction.

“She has spoken and indeed thanked us for the job done and left impressed because she last visited when we were at foundation level but as you can see after this phase that can accommodate sports we are ready to go.

“I call upon all fellow Ugandans to love our nation because this is a public facility not for an individual but for all of us so let us nurture and promote talent. I know we have so many talented Ugandans, let us all stand up and promote our country because we need to produce world champions.

He said the facility has been constructed to international standards and has different levels of seating: ordinary, VIP, and executive boxes

“It’s a multi-purpose facility that can host basketball, football, netball, and indoor games like boxing, pool table, table tennis, and many others. Let us appreciate what has been accomplished thus far and start using the facility,” he stated.

He added that the stadium has been developed in a phased manner and currently, it is just the second phase that has been completed with the remaining part that will involve additional stands and roofing to come later to make it a 35,000-seater stadium.

“For me, I’m happy because many doubted in the beginning that this could not be possible but I have been able to make it and I assure Ugandans that the stadium will continuously be maintained to the set standards.

“We should believe in ourselves because together we can make it and develop our country. It is our responsibility to develop such facilities,”
