Amus College intensifies preparations for FEASSSA Games

Amus College in Bukedea district has kick-started preparations for the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games.

Currently, the school is participating in friendlies as part of their preparations ahead of the main games at Bukedea Comprehensive in August.

During a friendly match held on Monday at Akisim Basketball Arena in Soroti City, the Bukedea-based school beat Soroti Tiger’s Men’s basketball side 82-53.

“It will be a good test for our players to know our strength ahead of the forthcoming games that roll off March 17 at the district level, regional, and nationals before hosting East Africa games,” said Samuel Opio, the games teacher.

According to Opio, Amus College School has focused its attention on friendly games as a way of preparing athletes for the championship.

Cathrine Ajilong, Bukedea school team coach says they will use the competition to fill in gaps ahead of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) sports calendar.

“We picked up a lot of lessons from the game played against Soroti Tigers and we shall be looking forward to rectifying them,” she said.

David Oranit, the Basketball coordinator in Northern and Eastern Uganda applauded Amus College School administration and encouraged schools to get involved in basketball as a sport.

The games slated for 19th -27th of August 2024, will include Badminton, Athletics, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Hockey, Netball, Soccer, Goalball, Rugby (7's and 15's) as well as Basketball (3X3 and 5x5).

 

 

The  2023 edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA)  at Huye International Stadium, Rwanda, saw Uganda defending the overall crown with a total of 37 medals; of these 17 were gold, 11 silver, and 9 bronze, Kenya followed suit with 23 medals in total; 8 gold and silver apiece as well as 7 bronze and the hosts Rwanda in position three with 12 medals; 4 silver and 8 bronze whilst Tanzania returned home with three medals (2 silver and 1 bronze).
