Light Flyweight Innocent Tumusiime has added to Uganda's medal tally at the ongoing Africa Games in Ghana.

Tumusiime punched his way to the medal bracket following his first-round knockout of Lesotho’s Retselisitsoe Kolobe inside a packed Bukom Arena in Accra.

His knockout of Kolbe means he will return to the semifinals on Wednesday against DRC’s Zola Tukembekwa.

In boxing, all semi-finalists are guaranteed at least a bronze medal with the finalists taking gold and silver.

It is Uganda’s first boxing medal in Ghana taking the country’s total to nine with two gold from the female badminton duo of Husina Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi with cyclist Charles Kagimu winning the other.

Uganda now has five boxers in the quarterfinals that are one win away from entering the medal bracket.

These include light welterweight Innocent Amoko who on Sunday knocked out Seychelles' Darius Jovanie Antoine Bouzin in the first round.

Captain Muzamir Ssemuddu secured his quarter-final berth when he brutally knocked out Togo’s Akoussan Holonue forcing organizers to rush him for a doping test that turned out negative.

Ssemuddu returns to the ring this evening.

Welterweight Owen Kibira, featherweight Kassim Murungi, and lightweight Erina Namutebi are the other Ugandan boxers at this level.
