Ochwa gets heroic welcome after court victory

Ululations filled the air while jubilant crowds danced to loud music on Friday afternoon in different villages in Agule county as they turned out in large numbers to receive David Ochwa who emerged victorious in a court battle that has kept him away from parliament for three years.

Upon his return to the constituency after court victory, he received a heroic welcome from Pallisa town where a big crowd of supporters escorted him to Agule town council.

On Tuesday 19, the Court of Appeal delivered its long-awaited verdict in favour of Ochwa who dragged Polycarp Ogwari to court over a lack of requisite academic qualifications.

The Court of Appeal established that Ogwari didn't have the required academic qualifications and nullified his victory and confirmed Ochwa as the new MP for Agule County.

Ochwa, a flag bearer of the NRM, is set for swearing-in next week and the Speaker of Parliament has already been notified.

"The Electoral Commission and the Speaker of Parliament are hereby notified that Polycarp Ogwari shall from the date of this judgement 19th March, cease to be the Member of Parliament for Agule County," court ordered.

"Ogwari is ordered to vacate the seat of Member of Parliament for Agule county immediately. Ochwa is declared as winner of the election for Agule and shall take office with effect from the date of this judgement (19th of March 20240)," court ordered in its landmark ruling.

Driving through the dusty roads to his constituency, on Friday, Ochwa braved the dust to wave at the supporters who queued up on major trading centers and roads. Local artists and drama actors also entertained people.
