Kabaka Birthday Run receive a sh50m boost from Parliament

The Kabaka Birthday Run has received a boost of sh50m from parliament ahead of the annual event on Sunday.

The cheque was handed over by Speaker of Parliament Anite Among to the Katikiro Charles Peter Myiga at the Kingdom headquarters in Bulange Mengo on Tuesday.

While handing over the cheque, Among rallied the youth to take part in the run and be part of the cause of kicking out HIV/AIDS by 2030 and saving the girl child.

“I call on all the youth to take part in this year’s birthday run and promote more awareness of the need to kick out HIV/AIDS by 2030,” Among said.

This will be the 11th edition of the run which has been ongoing with various themes but this year’s being: “Men are stars in the fight against HIV/AIDS to save the Girl Child”.

Among also said that parliament is fully vested in the initiative of the kingdom hence the boldness of coming on board.

“As the Parliament of Uganda, we identify with this year’s theme; “Men are stars in the fight against HIV/AIDS to save the Girl Child” We are cognizant of the effect of HIV/AIDS on our population and we welcome the effort of the Buganda Kingdom to complement the Government’s effort in combating HIV/AIDS,” she said.

She was accompanied by the deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa and members of parliament led by Mathias Mpuga of Nyendo Mukungwe.

Katikiro Mayiga thanked parliament for joining the noble cause of this year’s birthday run.

 

“On behalf of the Buganda kingdom, we extend our sincere gratitude to the parliament for the gesture shown to support the noble cause of this year’s run.”

The run will tip off at 7 am on Sunday from Lubiri palace and the participants will run in three categories:21km,10km, and 5km.

The kits are already on sale and cost sh20,000 and are sold at Bulange Mengo, Vision group head offices, and all Airtel outlets in the country.
