KCCA FC coach Abdallah Mubiru has called upon his players to put the Uganda Cup disappointments behind them and focus on finishing strong in their remaining league games.

“I know that our exit from the Uganda Cup had lots of question marks but that is football. My message to the players has been clear, they should put that disappointment behind them and focus on finishing the season strongly,” said Mubiru.

Mubiru’s side was eliminated by BUL from the Uganda Cup at the quarterfinal stage on Saturday 6-5 on penalties, a match in which he and his players were left cursing referee Mashood Ssali for not awarding them what they believed was a legitimate penalty in the second half of extra time.

They return to league action today at home, Philip Omondi Stadium Lugogo where they will host Mbarara City in a floodlit match at 7 pm.

In the reverse fixture at Kakyeka Stadium in December, the Ankole Lions came from a goal down to beat Mubiru’s side 2-1 through Sadat Nsubuga and Henry Kitegenyi who canceled Ashraf Mugume’s free kick.

Before losing to BUL, KCCA was enjoying a good run in the league having won four straight matches and such an impressive form saw them climb up the table to sixth place with 35 points.

Victory will also brighten their slim chances of challenging for the title. This is because three points at the end of the day will have them move within six points behind leaders Kitara with a game in hand.

KCCA will miss the services of their captain Filbert Obenchan, Joseph Ogwang both on suspension due to many accumulated yellow cards, and Mustafa Kizza who injured himself in training.

The good news is the return of midfielder Mugume who resumed training this week.

On the other hand, Mbarara City under Wasswa Bbosa as head coach is 10th on the table with 28 points. They have never won a league game at Lugogo and more worrying is the fact that they are winless all away matches this season.

Away from Lugogo, seventh-placed Maroons host relegation-threatened Busoga United, 14th on the table at Luzira Prison Grounds.
