Day one of the USSSA boys’ national championship at Masaka SS finally kicked off with the first games of the championship on Saturday, after delays due to a lengthy screening exercise and technical meetings.

Some of the games that were to be played Saturday were postponed to Sunday for an anticipated packed Sunday action at different venues of the hosting Masaka city.

And when the games finally kicked off, defending champions St Mary’s Kitende was one of the strong sides kept at bay by little-known sides, as they laboured to beat Kisozi Seed School 1-0 at Masaka Recreational Ground.

However, co-hosts Blessed Sacrament Kimanya started on a bright note, beating Tawheed of Jinja 3-0, while St Juliana also registered a big 6-0 win over St Kagwa Bushenyi and London College beat Bugangari from Kigezi 3-0.

Nakaseke stunned Kawempe Muslim 1-0, Ndejje SS beat Mentor 1-0, while Kabalega SS registered a 4-0 win over Hill View.
