With just 24 hours to go until the highly anticipated 10th edition of the Patrick Etolu Track and Field Run, excitement is mounting as hundreds of athletes gear up for the event.

Scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Soroti Sports Ground, the annual meet will bring together local, national, and international athletes to showcase their talent in various track and field events.

“I’ve trained hard—now it’s time to prove myself,” said Grace Akello, a 100-meter sprinter.

Organised by Uganda Athletics, the event coincides with the federation’s centenary celebrations, marking 100 years of existence and achievement.

“I’m ready for any challenge. I’ve competed against national athletes before, and I’m not backing down,” said Ben Ocen, a 400m sprinter, who is eyeing a cash prize at the meet.

Jimmy Isamat, Chairperson of the North East Athletics Association, emphasized the event’s importance in talent identification.

“This meet will help us discover new talent for the Uganda Athletics Federation’s national trials,” he said. “We also plan to profile the best athlete of the competition.”

Uganda Athletics Federation President Dominic Otucet highlighted the federation’s legacy in nurturing talent and uniting the nation through sport.

“Reaching 100 years is no small feat. The Patrick Etolu Memorial is a fitting way to celebrate our journey, the dedication of our athletes, coaches, and officials, and the inspiration they provide to future generations,” Otucet said.
