Uganda's talented badminton player, Fadhila Shamika, is poised to make an impact in Germany after two months of training at a high-performance center in Mauritius.

Earlier this year, Shamika earned bronze medals in both singles and doubles at the 2025 African Badminton Championships held at the Gymnasede de Japoma in Douala, Cameroon, and she is considered one of Uganda's top medal prospects outside of athletics.

“I hope to perform well in Germany because I feel really prepared. I have trained effectively, and I’m very confident,” Shamika stated.

“The high-performance center has allowed me to work closely with their national badminton team. I’ve also been hitting the gym and participating in various activities there, which I feel has been very beneficial.”

This year, Fadhila has achieved significant success, including a bronze medal at the African Championships.

However, her standout performance remains winning the gold in singles at the 2023 All Africa Senior Championship in South Africa, where she defeated Johanita Scholtz 2-1 in the final.

Additionally, she has won the national rankings tournament and claimed victory at the East African Challenge last year. Shamika has represented Uganda in various international tournaments, including the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK, the ISF Gymnasiade in Normandy, France, the Uganda International Tournament in Kampala; the Africa Junior Championships in Mauritius; and the East Africa Secondary Schools Championships in Kigali, Rwanda. Badminton action in Germany kicks off on July 17 at the Westernegie Sporthalle in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
