Ugandan football fans will enjoy significantly reduced ticket prices for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, marking a clear shift from the high fees previously charged for Uganda Cranes fixtures.

Over the past year, FUFA faced criticism for inconsistent pricing, such as the June 2024 World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria, where regular seats went for Ugx 40,000.

The September AFCON qualifier against Congo saw a reduction to sh 25,000, which was maintained for the South Sudan match, while tickets for the South Africa game were priced at sh30,000. The most recent fixture against Guinea had a tiered structure, ranging from sh30,000 for regular to sh900,000 for a Platinum Family package.

In sharp contrast, CHAN 2025 ticket prices will be remarkably affordable. Uganda’s Local Organising Committee (LOC), acting on guidance from the PAMOJA Steering Committee, has proposed new rates aimed at driving fan attendance and inclusivity. LOC Communications Chairperson Dennis Mugimba emphasized that CHAN is about national pride, not just football. The proposed pricing structure includes Shs3,600 for ordinary tickets, Shs7,600 for VIP, and Shs11,400 for VVIP, with uniform rates expected across Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania—the three co-hosts.

Discussions are underway to finalize the Tier I ticket price, but Mugimba confirmed it will not exceed Shs10,000. The move represents a push toward full stadiums and greater public engagement ahead of the tournament, which runs from August 2 to 30 and will be hosted in a tri-nation format for the first time.

Uganda is placed in Group C alongside Algeria, Guinea, Niger, and South Africa, with all group matches set to be played at the newly renovated Namboole Stadium. To prepare, the Uganda Cranes will take part in a four-nation warm-up tournament in Arusha, Tanzania from July 21 to 27. Organized by CECAFA, the mini-competition will include Kenya, Tanzania, and Congo Brazzaville—all CHAN 2025 participants.
