Table tennis sensation Imran Luwooza delivered back-to-back victories on day one of the inaugural African School Games, which commenced Saturday in Algeria.

Competing at the Ali Mendjeli Sports Arena in Constantine, Luwooza overcame home favorite Abdelhine Merouane in straight sets (11–9, 11–7, 11–8), before dispatching Seychelles’ Abel Athan Lester in his second match. His two wins placed him top of Group 2 with four points and secured a spot in the quarterfinals.

Luwooza’s stellar performance gave Team Uganda a morale boost following early setbacks in other disciplines.

Both men’s and women’s Basketball 3x3 sides suffered defeats, with the men losing their opener 13–07 to Ghana and falling again 15–09 to Rwanda in a decisive match in Annaba.

On the football front, Uganda is set to begin its campaign in Group A with a fixture against Tunisia at CS Constantine Stadium. Representing Uganda is Buddo SS—the USSSA defending champions—under head coach Richard Malinga.
