The TotalEnergies African Nations Championship reaches a crucial juncture on Sunday, with two matches that could decide the fate of Group A.

At Moi International Sports Centre, Morocco and hosts Kenya face off for the first time in CHAN history.

Morocco, champions in 2018 and unbeaten in 14 matches, can seal their knockout spot with victory. Kenya, unbeaten in two games, could become only the third debutant to reach the quarter-finals if they win.

“Our main objective is to get through the first round, and that means a victory against Kenya,” said Morocco coach Tarik Sektioui, who praised his squad’s ability but warned against underestimating the hosts.

Benni McCarthy’s Kenya side have shown grit, beating DR Congo and holding Angola.

“Morocco is unpredictable and that is why we must produce quality and be more organised in all areas of the game,” McCarthy said.

At Nyayo National Stadium, Angola meet Zambia in a contest with no margin for error. Angola, yet to win, must take three points to stay in contention.

“We want to remain in the competition, and for this to happen, we have to give our best for a win,” defender Joaquim ‘Quinito’ Balanga stressed ahead of the match.

Zambia, after a poor start, are looking to bounce back. “It was a bit scrappy how we started but... we have now picked rhythm,” said captain Kabaso Chongo.
