Sixteen rally drivers and 40 motocross riders are set to compete against each other in the third round of the Mbarara Motor Club (MMC) Autocross and Enduro championship, an event that promises to electrify the Kiruhura district at the Mwesigwa Resort track this Saturday.
The competition will feature a diverse range of races, including Enduro, cadets, 2WD and senior drivers, ensuring a captivating spectacle for spectators.
Notable competitors who will be vying for supremacy include Moustapha Kanaakulya, a contender for this year's Autocross title, Samuel Bwete from the Kwunyemu rally team and Edson Mungereza, who will be piloting his Subaru Impreza GVB.
Kanaakulya, who currently occupies the second position in the Autocross title standings with 20 points, is optimistic about securing a win in the Mbarara event, which would enable him to narrow the gap between himself and Ian Hans Bachu, the leader in the title race.
"I have never envisioned finishing the Autocross season outside of the top spot," Kanaakulya stated. "Missing the second round inadvertently handed Bachu an opportunity to take the lead in the title; now it's my turn to reclaim the top position."
According to Charles Dick Ssemmengo, the Clerk of the course, the rally's itinerary is meticulously designed to assess drivers' ability to maintain their pace and endurance, with experience playing a pivotal role. "The drivers will cover a total distance of 7 kilometers, which will be repeated twice," Ssemmengo confirmed.
The event was officially launched on Tuesday at the Mwesigwa Resorts, situated in Kibega village in Kiruhura district along the Mbarara highway. With three events remaining to determine the champion, the title contention is expected to be intense, and the competition promises to be thrilling.
