Kampala Queens assistant head coach Sharon Kizza remains optimistic about her team’s chances of winning the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, despite a challenging start to the tournament.

Their qualification now hinges on the outcome of the Group A decider, with Kenya Police Bullets currently leading the group due to their head-to-head advantage. The Bullets still have a game in hand against Eritrea’s Denden SC, scheduled for Wednesday, September 10.

“We did our homework thoroughly and executed well in our last group game,” Kizza said. “We still believe we can win this tournament. Every detail was carefully analyzed and considered.”

The Queens reignited their campaign on Sunday with a dominant 7–0 victory over Denden FC at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, keeping their semifinal hopes alive. The emphatic win came after a narrow 1–0 defeat to Kenya Police Bullets in their opening match.

“It was a tough day in the office during our first game. The girls gave it their all, but we knew we had to bounce back—and we did, showing real character,” Kizza reflected. “Losing the opener didn’t mean we were out. We had other chances, and we learned from our mistakes.”

From the first whistle, Kampala Queens asserted their dominance. Kamiyati Naigaga opened the scoring in the 4th minute, followed by Tourist Lema Tone’s strike just four minutes later. Peace Muduwa added a third in the 30th minute, giving the Queens a comfortable 3–0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw no let-up. Muduwa netted her second just a minute after the restart, Lema completed her brace in the 47th, Naigaga scored again in the 55th, and substitute Zaituna Namaganda sealed the rout in the 77th minute.

According to tournament rules, the winners of each group and the best second-placed team advance to the semifinals. The overall champion earns the sole ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

With their eyes still firmly on the prize, Kampala Queens will be watching Wednesday’s match closely, hoping for a result that keeps their dream alive.
