Newly reformed Kampala Queens FC is poised to kick off the 2025/2026 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League season with a resounding statement of intent.

The defending champions are set to face off against their arch-rivals Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC this Friday at the Kawempe Valley pitch, with a singular objective: to retain the coveted trophy with an unblemished record.

Despite the departure of three pivotal players, including team captain Shamira Naluggya, who has joined FC Minsk Women in Belarus, Zaina Nandede, the 2024 FUFA Female Player of the Year, who has signed with Simba Queens FC in Tanzania, and Asia Nakibuuka, who has returned to Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, Kampala Queens have reinforced their squad with an influx of talented foreign players and local stars.

The Queens' squad has been bolstered by the arrivals of Ethiopian internationals Tone Turist Lema and Meadin Sahilu, as well as Zambian duo Precious Phiri and Square Maiwase. Additionally, they've signed Joanita Ainembabazi and local talents Catherine Wujja (from Rines WFC), Marion Amangat (from Olila High), and Jolly Kobusingye (from Kawempe Muslim Ladies).

Speaking at the official launch of the new season at the Finance Trust Bank headquarters in Nakasero on Wednesday, Kampala Queens' assistant coach, Sharon Kizza, exuded unwavering confidence, stating, "With our strategic recruitment drive, other teams should reassess their chances of winning this year's trophy. We invite all fans to converge at the Valley Pitch as we kick off our campaign with a convincing victory over the resilient Kawempe Muslim Ladies."

However, Kawempe Muslim Ladies' head coach, Ayub Khalifa, remains unphased by the significant investments made by Kampala Queens, instead focusing on harnessing the advantage of playing on home turf to secure a winning start to the season.

Despite being dealt a blow by injuries to team captain Shakira Nyinagahirwa and Sumayah Nabbuto, as well as the departure of Jolly Kobusingye to Kampala Queens, Kawempe Muslim has strengthened their ranks with the signings of Latifah Nakasi from Uganda Martyrs WFC, Amina Nakato from She Corporate, and Aisha Nakibuuka, who has rejoined her former club from Kampala Queens.

"We will adhere to our unique playing style, unencumbered by undue pressure," Khalifa said. "My primary focus is on navigating the entirety of the 22-match season, rather than fixating solely on our encounter with Kampala Queens."

Last season's league campaign saw Kampala Queens triumph over Kawempe Muslim Ladies with a 4-1 win in the first leg, although Kawempe Muslim responded with a 2-1 victory at the KCCA FC playground in Lugogo.
