Having firmly established himself in KCCA FC’s midfield since joining the club two years ago, Joel Sserunjogi is now setting his sights on evolving his role beyond defensive duties to become a more influential force in attack.

The 23-year-old midfielder says he is determined to increase his contributions in the final third, adding goals, assists, and helping the club secure silverware this season.

“I’m challenging myself to be more involved in the final third this season,” Sserunjogi said. “The role of a modern defensive midfielder is changing, and if I’m to achieve my personal goals, I need to see myself scoring and assisting more often. I want to become a crucial link between our defence and attack.”

Since signing a four-year contract with KCCA FC in 2023 after a standout stint at Kajjansi United, Sserunjogi has become a consistent performer. But his ambitions go beyond personal statistics.

“Above all my personal objectives, goals, assists, and final third penetration, is my desire to win silverware with KCCA FC,” he emphasized. “This is a club of champions, and we owe it to our fans and the badge to deliver trophies. That’s the main target, and everything I do on the field is aimed at achieving that goal.”

Sserunjogi’s football journey began with the URA FC Junior Team before moving to Kajjansi United in the Buganda Regional League, where his strong performances quickly drew attention. He later rose to prominence in the Masaza Cup, playing a pivotal role in Busiro’s historic 2022 title win, defeating Buddu 2–1 at Wankulukuku Stadium.

His steady rise earned him a call-up to the Uganda Cranes CHAN team—an experience he says deepened his hunger and boosted his confidence.

“The experience with the Uganda Cranes at CHAN was incredible and a huge motivator,” he said. “But what keeps me in that national team setup is performing consistently well for KCCA FC. Every time I step onto the pitch for the club, I’m representing my country, my club, my family, and myself.”

With just one goal to his name so far in his KCCA FC career, Sserunjogi is now fully focused on improving his attacking output this season.
