Match Day 2 of the National Bridge League 2025 produced dramatic swings and strategic brilliance at the Islamic University in Uganda's Females' Campus Sports Complex in Kabojja on Saturday.
Thirteen teams competed in 18 matches across 36 boards in three round-robin rounds, in the Uganda Bridge Federation organized event officiated by the technical director Reagan Egulwa, alongside officials Arnold Kizito and John Musasizi.
The results significantly reshuffled the standings and set up an exciting Match Day 3 on October 25 at Cavendish University.
Muk Bridge Club 1, led by Asiimwe Kizza, had a tough day. They started with a heavy 25-1 loss to Kampala Bridge Club 1, struggling with defense and missing key slams. Things did not improve in the next round, as they lost 21-9 to Kampala Bridge Club 2. In the afternoon, they bounced back with a strong 25-4 win over Muk Bridge Club 3. Despite this, they finished the day in fourth place with 85 Victory Points (VPs).
"It was a wake-up call," said Asiimwe Kizza the Muk Bridge Club Captain in a post-match talk. "We'll rebound stronger.
Ndejje Mavericks 1 took the top spot after strong morning wins, beating IUIU Aces 1 and Muk Bridge Club 3 with 25 VPs each. In the afternoon, they lost a close match to Victoria Bridge Club, who moved up to third place with 89 VPs. Kampala Bridge Club 1 pulled off an upset to reach second place with 107 VPs, just four behind Ndejje's 111. Cavendish Bridge Club improved from 13th to 11th with 39 VPs, showing promise for new teams. IUIU's Aces squads finished at the bottom, highlighting the league's focus on development.
With Match Day 3 coming up at Cavendish University, all attention is on Ndejje Mavericks 1 as they face three teams: KU Bridge Club, Muk Bridge Club 2, and IUIU Aces 2. Kampala Bridge Club 1 will also have a busy afternoon, taking on Kampala Bridge Club 2 and Muk Bridge Club 3 after their bye. Will Makerere make a comeback, or will Victoria take the lead? As the final match day approaches on 8th November 2025, this university bridge competition is set for more surprises.
