Vipers Sports Club president, Lawrence Mulindwa, has extended heartfelt appreciation to Ugandan football fans for their overwhelming support during the recent CAF Champions League encounter between Vipers SC and Power Dynamos at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The match, which attracted a vibrant and sizable crowd, came against the backdrop of tensions between Mulindwa and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) over the newly introduced double league header format.

In a bold move just weeks prior, Mulindwa announced Vipers’ withdrawal from FUFA’s domestic scheduling to prioritise continental competition, a decision that struck a chord with many fans across the country.

Widely interpreted as a stand for club autonomy and improved football governance, Mulindwa’s stance galvanized supporters from all corners of Uganda, uniting them behind the Kitende-based side.

The atmosphere at St. Mary’s Stadium was electric, with fans turning out in droves to rally behind the reigning Uganda Premier League champions.

Despite a 2-1 home defeat to the Zambian outfit, marked by an unfortunate own goal from Hilary Mukundane, Mulindwa remained upbeat about the team’s prospects in the return leg.

“I want to sincerely thank all Ugandans who came out to support Vipers. Your love and unity showed the true spirit of our game. We may have lost at home, but the fight continues,” Mulindwa said.

Vipers SC now shifts focus to the decisive second leg, scheduled for October 24th in Lusaka.

The team will be aiming for a minimum 2-0 victory to overturn the deficit and secure a spot in the next round of the CAF Champions League.
