Mulago Hospital's Orthopedics win sixth season's Medical League

The Orthopedic team claimed the championship title over the National Drug Authority (NDA) through superior goal difference of 3 points, despite both teams accumulating identical 18-point totals along with first runners-up Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital.

The Orthopedics Department from Mulago had the most exuberant celebration after securing victory in Season-6 of football during the Medical League finale held at St. Lawrence University Campus in Lubaga on Sunday.


The Orthopedic team claimed the championship title over the National Drug Authority (NDA) through superior goal difference of 3 points, despite both teams accumulating identical 18-point totals along with first runners-up Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital.

 

The Orthopedic squad concluded with an impressive goal difference of 14, while NDA and Kayunga recorded differences of 11 and 10 goals respectively. The winning team also boasted the tournament's leading scorer, Robison Lubega. Additionally, Orthopedic dominated the final day by capturing the Tug of War competition, defeating NDA.

In volleyball action, Bethany Women and Family Hospital emerged victorious over Kibuli Muslim Hospital, while Kibuli claimed the athletics championship ahead of NDA and the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda (PSU), whose Hussein Oria earned recognition as the outstanding overall manager.


Individual honors saw Joseph Ssenkula receiving the Most Valuable Player award in football, while Lubaga's Daphine Diana Suki and Bethany Women Hospital's Banex Tumwesigye captured the netball and volleyball MVP titles respectively. Kayunga's Benon Kayinja distinguished himself as the premier goalkeeper in football, and Zainab Ahmad earned the leading scorer recognition in netball.

Additional accolades were distributed among UNHLS for being the smartest team, UAP for exceptional discipline, Lubaga for outstanding fan support, and PSU for showing the greatest promise.

The Medical League  is a sports setup that brings together all the medical institutions across Uganda. It gives them a chance to get some physical activity going through things like football, netball and volleyball, all with the aim of encouraging healthier lifestyles.
