Victoria Sharks and KCB Kobs cruised to 20–0 victories in their Uganda Cup fixtures on Saturday, both earning walkovers without stepping onto the pitch.
Victoria Sharks, a university side, traveled to Mbale only to find their hosts, Mbale Wolves, unable to field the minimum required 12 players for the match to proceed under tournament regulations.
Meanwhile, in Kakira, KCB Kobs were awarded a walkover after the hosts failed to meet medical requirements. The ambulance arrived late and lacked a spine board stretcher, a critical piece of equipment recommended for rugby competitions due to its suitability for handling players with suspected fractures.
Uganda Rugby Union Chief Technical Officer Ramsey Olinga confirmed the developments.
“There were two walkovers. In Mbale, the hosts didn’t raise the minimum of 12 players, and in Kakira, the ambulance did not have a spine board stretcher,” Olinga said.
Victoria Sharks head coach Kevin Makmot expressed disappointment over the missed opportunity to test his squad ahead of their upcoming university derby against Makerere Impis.
“We didn’t get the chance to test ourselves, but it’s good we got the win. We’re now preparing to face Makerere on Saturday, and our target remains a victory,” Makmot stated.
Elsewhere at Kyadondo, Platinum Credit Heathens defeated Makerere Impis 29–6, with tries from Michael Wopkorach, Aaron Ofwoyrwoth, Daniel Otema, and Joseph Oyet.
Earlier in the day, Toyota Buffaloes overwhelmed Kyambogo 63–7, while Stanbic Black Pirates delivered a record-breaking performance, thrashing Kigezi Silverbacks 154–9.
In Jinja, Walukuba suffered a surprise 27–14 defeat at the hands of Plascon Mongers.
