Down but not out, Namuwongo must continue to believe

National Basketball League

Finals, Game 3
Today, Lugogo
Oilers v Namuwongo (9pm)

What, if anything, can the Namuwongo Blazers do to get back in the National Basketball League (NBL) Finals against the City Oilers?

When the final whistle sounded on Game 2 two days ago, sending Namuwongo into a 2-0 hole against the Oilers, the end was seen as certain by almost everyone.

These, after all, are the Oilers, who just don't lose playoff series. When they smell blood, they go for the kill. And after Game 2, Namuwongo looked fatten for the slaughter.

But... it's not over yet.

And although a 2-0 deficit is daunting and there are not many examples of teams that have returned from it to win an NBL series, fact is some have done it.

In fact, guess who were the last team to do it? The City Oilers. After falling, 2-0 behind the UCU Canons in the semis of the 2014 playoffs, the Oilers fought back to win the next three games en route to their second title.

That was a long time ago, and the absence of such a comeback in the NBL since underscores how hard it is.

But going into today's Game 3 at Lugogo, Namuwongo must believe it can be done.

Without that belief, whatever tactical adjustments they make will be useless.

The Oilers are in total control, but until they have four wins in the bag, the prize is still to fight for. And Namuwongo have to stay in the fight until the final whistle.
