Heathens Rugby Club continued their fine form with a commanding 35–17 victory over Victoria University in their third-round encounter of the National Rugby Uganda Cup at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

Saturday's win kept Heathens unbeaten and at the top of their group standings.

Victoria University started strongly, matching the hosts in the opening stages and equalising the early five points scored by Heathens. However, their inexperience showed as they committed several costly fouls, conceding three penalties in the game. The first half ended 18–5 in favour of the Heathens.

Norbert Okeny and Julius Oyet each scored two tries, while Dennis Etwan added a fifth. Joseph Oyet impressed with his kicking, successfully converting three penalties and four of five conversions.

Head coach Tolbert Onyango credited the win to a stronger second-half performance and the inclusion of several young players from the sevens setup.

“We fielded a couple of young boys like Julius Oyuk, Daniel Otema, and fly-half Danis Etou, who were all impressive today,” said Onyango. “We are also rotating players because we have many backs and want to give everyone a chance.”

Onyango added that the team is surpassing the goals they set at the start of the season, despite relying on a youthful squad.

“We don’t know our next opponent yet, but we are leading the group. With two weekends left before the quarterfinals, we’ll focus on analysing past games and improving further,” he added.

The coach also hailed the return of veteran player Michael Wokorach, who completed the full 80 minutes.

“He played 50 minutes in the previous game, and today he lasted the full match. That’s a positive sign, and we expect even better performances from him before the end of the year,” noted Onyango.

At Legends, hosts Kobs staged a late comeback to edge Buffaloes 16–14 in the final five minutes of a thrilling contest.
