Australia to host 2027 Netball World Cup

Australia, which is currently the leading netball playing country, is to celebrate its netball association centenary year in 2027 at the same time it will be hosting the 17th Netball World Cup. 

The International Netball Federation (INF) has announced that Australia has been awarded the rights to host the 2027 world cup tournament. 

The Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia’s iconic world city and leading tourism and events destination, has been chosen as the primary venue for the tournament. 

The arena is situated in the Sydney Olympic Park renowned for its global reputation as a multi-sport's major events precinct. 

  “On behalf of the Board of the International Netball Federation, I am delighted to announce that Netball Australia will be hosting the 2027 Netball World Cup. Australia put in a strong bid and we are confident they will deliver an excellent event in the city of Sydney, as we have seen Netball Australia do so in the past,” INF President, Liz Nicholl, CBE, said in a press release issued Monday morning. 

  “As our sport continues to grow and evolve at an unprecedented rate around the globe, we look forward to working with the Organising Committee and Netball Australia on netball’s growth and development whilst delivering a thrilling world-class event that will no doubt inspire all and work towards creating a better world through netball.” 

  The Netball World Cup is INF’s flagship event held every four years and brings together the world’s top teams for the sport’s most elite tournament. 

The next edition will be in Cape Town South Africa in 2023.

Sydney has won the rights to host the Netball World Cup on two previous occasions in 1991 and 2015. In 2027 Netball Australia.

 Over 20 million people play netball around the world, in more than 80 countries. 

Currently, 76 National Netball Associations are affiliated to the INF, grouped into five Regions - Africa, Asia, Americas, Europe, and Oceania - each with a respective Regional Federation. 

 In the most recent world rankings, which reflect matches played between November 29, 2020, and March 31, 2021, Uganda is the seventh-best netball playing country worldwide. 

 Australia is the leading netball playing country, followed by New Zealand, England, Jamaica, South Africa, and Malawi is 6th. Scotland, Wales and Trinidad and Tobago follow Uganda.
