Banyatereza PS tops AFRIYEA Inter-school Golf Championship at Tooro Club

Banyatereza Golden Jubilee Primary School emerged top as the inaugural inter-school golf championship ended at Tooro club on Tuesday.

The event ended with Tooro Parents Education Centre coming second in the event that attracted 10 schools to the picturesque course in Fort Portal. A representation of 216 children both new junior golfers and existing ones from different schools where AFRIYEA Golf Academy has a junior program.

Banyatereza tied in the first position with Tooro Parents Education Centre which called for a playoff to determine the overall winner.

Glory to Glory won the special category of the aptitude test which was aimed at testing the ability of children to perform different tasks and react to situations either on the course or at school. This can further include analytical thinking, mathematics, problem-solving, and prioritization amongst other things.

The tournament was aimed at introducing golf to the grassroots level by providing access to all the children from different walks of life to play the game in pursuit of diversity, inclusion, and equity.

The tournament was played under the theme ‘enable the youngsters to self-actualize through all-round opportunities provided by the game golf and education. 

The competition followed weeks of training for the children from different professional golfers and those already playing the game.

 

Pre- Primary and primary schools both private and public schools turned up in big numbers to unleash the children's hidden golf abilities. 

Fort Portal city Inspector of schools Patrick Ategeka presided over the tournament and commended AFRIYEA Golf Academy for the good job done in growing the game of golf in schools.
